To keep up with the OEM quality theme, I managed to get a vacuum pump and vacuum sensor from the Azure Dynamics Ford Transit Connect: the same vehicle my motor and motor controller was sourced from.
This is a pretty simple setup and should be pretty straight forward to wire and install. The vacuum pump is driven by a 12V source and once power is applied, it simply begins to pump. The vacuum sensor is manufactured to short to ground when the predetermined vacuum level is reached. I will use this signal to trigger a 12V relay and drive the pump.
The RX8 has a built in one-way valve, but I’m still uncertain if I will need to also use a vacuum canister. The canister would allow the pump to turn on less often and allow more of a buffer on the vacuum supply.
